SENSATION IN A HOTEL

A MAN ATTEMPTS TO COMMIT SUICIDE.

A man, naued William Richardson, attempted to commit suicide by outting bis throat with a razor in the Occidental Hotel about 10.15 o'clock last evening. It is stated by the polioe that Riehardson was sitting in a room off the bar when hj« drew a razor and inflioted a gash, about an inch and a half Jong and ote-eighth of an inch deep, in his throat, under the left ear. He then fell to the floor, and the noise of his falling attraoted Mr O'Meara, the proprietor of the hotel, to the room. Mr O'Meara imjaediately peroeived what had happened, and he summoned the police and Dr Cook. The man was unoonfloions for =ome time after the arrival of the polioe and doctor. Dr Cook attended to the wound, and then Richardson was conveyed to the Hospital in a cab. As far asoanjbe ascertained, the man has been employed on a flaxmill at Longbush for some months. He oamw into Masterton on Saturday last. No reason can yet be given for bis action. ißiobardson will be brought before the Police Court, this morning, on a oharge of attempted suicide.
