ARBITRATION COURT.
SITTING IN MASTERTON. A sitting of the Arbitration Court was held in Masterton yesterday, to daal with various breaches of awards. The Court consisted of Justice Chapman (President), and Mussrs R. Slater (employees' representative) ani S. Brown (Employers' representative). Carpenter's Award. Tait and Bacon were oharged with having employed a man at less than the Union wage. A fine of £3 was inflicted. For employing a man at less than the Union wage, Geo. T. Bennett, builder, was fined £2. Otto H. Maymend, fox accepting from G. T. Bennett less wages than specified in the award, was fined 10s. Painters' and Decorators' Award. —O. N. Clayton, of Eketabuna, was charged with (1) not paying wages weekly, (2) employing a man at less than the Uniou wage. Defendant was fined £1 on the first abarge, and £3 on the secund charge. Mr C. A. Pownall appeared fur the defendant. J. Follas, for accepting wages from 0. N. Clayton less than those specified in the award, was fined 10s. Henry Storey, contractor of Martin borough, was charged with failing to pay arrears of wages< amounting to £33.> Defendant, for whom Mr C. A. Pownall appeared, was fined £5. Furniture/ and Cabinet-makers' Award."—Henrioh Gust, for whom Mr C. A. Pownall appeared, was charged with having employed an apprentice at a wage loss than the Union wage, aud having employed an apprentice on pieoe-work. The first charge was dismissed, and the .second was considered irregular and a nominal flue of £1 was inflicted. Bakeis' Award.—J. S. J. Alpass and W. Wilkes, for employing nonunion labour, were each fined £3. Edward Pelling was fined £3 for employing his q6rter—Chas. Clarke—in the bake-house. Clarke was fined 10s for working iu the bakehouse. ! An application for the extension of the Wellington Tinsmith and > Sieet-iron Workers' award to the I Wairarapa was granted, there being nonobjection lodged. The award will take effect immediately. An application was made for the inclusion of the Wairarapa in the Wellington Coaohsmiths' Award. The application was approved of excepting on the question of the minimum rate ol! wages, local employers demanding that the wage be Is 2d per hoar instead of Is 3d per hour, the wage prevailing in Wellington; also excepting the question of the establishment oC a class for improvers.
