MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

FINANCE COMMITTEE. Tho monthly meeting of the Finance Committee of the Mastertou County Counoil was held yesterday morning. There were present:—Crs Beetbam (chairman), Harris, Guild, Warren and Kebbe'.l. Tha Treasurer reported as follows: —General Account, dr., £998 lis 2d; Loeal Bodies Loan Account, or., £2,371 7a lOd; acoounts, cr., £1,310 16s 8d; reoeipts for tbe month, £2,110 88. Acounts amounting to £1,419 l'ds 2d were parsed for payment, ** The Akitio County Uounoil wrote applying for one half the rates paid by certain settlers in tha Masterton County,- who make use of the roads in the Akitio County. It was Je oided tbat the use of roads under the jurisdiction of tho Masterton Counoil by settler/} residing in the Akitio County more than compensates for tbe use made of roads in tbe Akitio County by Masterton County settlers, and under these oircumstanoes the application could not be favourably considered.

COUNCIL MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Council was held yesterday afternoon. There weie present:—Ora U. E. Cookburn Hood (chairman), 0. Kebbell, Holmes Warren, D. Guild, H. Toogood, J. Morris, jnr., W. Harris and W. H. Beetham. _ Stock Inepeotor Jenkinson wrote drawing the Council's attention to the necessity fur clearing broom from the Kuamahanga and Waidgana River-beda. It was decided thac the Engineer should confer with the * Stock Inspector with regard to the broom growing in various parts of the County. It was decided to Rive Mr J. C. MoKillop one month's notioe to remove the gates from the road ranging through his property at 'i'e Ore Ore. It was resolved to call tenders for the burning of papa on the Mt. Baker Road. The Engineer and Cr Toogood were authorised to have the Kaiwhata Road opened up for traffic as soon as it is Gazetted a public road.
