The entire Republican ticket in the New York States nas elected Mr Hughes. , v The latest returns give his majority as 55,000. Mr Hearst attributes his defeat to many disaffected Tammany democrats following " Boss " Croker's lead. Returns from the State show that the Republicans retain control of Congress by a majority of seventy, instead of one hundred and twelve, as expected. *" ■■ SUCCESS OF TAMMANY TICKET. Received November 9, 8.30 a.m. NEW YORK, November 8. Late information shows that Tammany elected every Congressman. The same organisation purposed securing ten judges for whom Mr Murphy bargained with Mr Hearst at the beginning of the campaign. Apart from Mr Hearst, who was defeated by Mr Hughes by a majority of 55,000 votes, Tammany's entire ticket for the State, Senate, and Assembly was elected. Notwithstanding Mr Croker's antagonism, Mr Murphy is supreme.

COMMENTS ON THE RESULTS.

LONDON, November 8. The New York correspondent ,of The Times says the result of the election of Mr Hughes as Governor of New York State is,sobering, but disappointing to both parties. Mr Hearst states that he is resolved to continue tbe fight against the control of the Government by trusts and corrupt corporations. He will be ready to serve if not allowed to lead. The Times states that-., though Mr Hearst is beaten he is certainly not finally discomfited. President Eoosevelt is reported to be disgusted at the smallnes.s of Mr Hughes' majority. /
