CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Saturday last. Present —• Councillors Speedy, (Chairman), Langdori, Bennett, JRichardson, Ryder, and innes. The Charitable Aid Board advised its intention to appoint Inspectors to enquire into the dispensing of relief and asking that they get every assistance to do so. A Slaughtering License was received from the Department ,of i Agriculture for Mr T. O'Connor. The Mastfrton County Clerk wrote giving particulars of the increase in the cost of eleoting Licensing Committees for the past nine years, also fnrnishing cdcies of letters from Returning Officer and Chief Kleotoral Officer, and asking for this Council's views on the matter. It was decided to support the Masterton County Council in objecting to the increase in tho expenses in uonneotion with the elections of a licensing Committee. The Agricultural Department wrote advisine that African Box Thorn bad been added to the list of /noxious weeds. Councillor Langdon and the Road Overseer were asked to examine and report on the gravel obtainable for repairs and metalling on the TinuiManhwa section of road. It was resolved tnat Mr 0. A. Oamerun be asked to contribute towards the cost of the repairs necessary on the Makirikiri road whioh includes a 6 x i culvert 25ft long, and that the road from Watoh Creek northwards be raised to the extent' shown on Mr Barton's plan for a distance of about 10 chains. The Clerk was direoted to ascertain the position m regard to Motoruar traffic Messrs Chapman and Tripp advised that the taking of a road from Whakataki to Castlepoinfc having to pass through Native Land Crown granted, would delßy matters for a time. Aeoounts amounting to £l6B lis 3a were passed tor payment, and the meeting adjourned.
