Up to Monday last Paritutu was a firm favourite, but since eased slightly in the bolting, ou amount of unsatisfactory gallops ou Friday and Saturday, Letuerin has been doing improving woik, and Lyrist also has given satisfaction. Multifid, Armistice, Ghoorlca and St. Joe are all considered to have exccllent chances of winning, while JMnkaroff, Laud worn, Star Rose, Notus and Blythemaid are looked upon as the outside divison, but at least one of this lot may be capable of making n really good race of it with tho better fancied performers. It is generally admitted that the race boars a very open appearance, bat if recent gallops be an indication of the result the following horses may fill the places:— PARITUTU 1 • LETHERIN 2 MULTIBID 3 THE STEWARDS' HANDICAP. The most popular selections for the principal sprint event of the colony are Cross Battery, Munjeet, Eden, Ballaral and Declination. Otberßthat have been coupled in the leading doubles to a cousideiable extent are Master A lix, King Billy, Savoury, sir Tristram and Golden Gat". Tbw race promises to be a very close one from the fact that several leading stables are confident of victory. Track fors may te repeated in the race, and the finish may be between— CROSS BATTERY SIR TRISTRAM and ABORIGINAL.
