FOOTBALL.
The Northern Rugby Union (England) have introduced a nuraher of amendments into the rules, with the object of brightening the game. The number of players has been reduced to thirteen, the "knockon" rale has been made more «laetic, the "play the bali" rule has been reintroduced, and measures have been taken to ensure a compact scrum.
