LONDON, October 30

The House of Lords is considering the Education Bill in oommittee. Lord Heneage's amendment, that every public elementary school should devote some portion of school hours to religious instruction, was carried by 256 votes to 56. The minority included, besides llord Ripon and other members of the Government, Lords Rosebery and Amptbiii. The Government supporters argued that the amendment was vague.

The Opposition replied that it was in accordance with Ministerial declarations and the general spirit of the Bill.
