AN ACT OP REVENGE,
Received Ootober bO, 10.55 p.m. ? NOUMEA, October 30.£* Details of the murder of the Rev. Godden are now available. A Kanaka, who had been imprisoned in Queensland, swore to take revenge on the first white man he met.
The Rev. Godden visited the native, who shot him ia the leg, and followed this up by attaoking bim with a tomahawk while Godden was trying to reach his residence. The natives next day arrested the murderer and bnnded him to the captain of a French warship, who brought him to Noumea. (The Rev. C. C. Godden was murdered on the island of Opa, New Hebrides, an October 15th. Mr Godden was 30 years of age, and belonged to the Anglican Melanesian Mission. He bad charge of the schools at Opa, and was an exstudent of the Moore College, Sydney).
