A LONDON PAPER'S COMMENTS. Received October 19, 7 a.m. LONDON, October 18. Commenting on the Beoession movement in Western Australia, the Standard states that safety is of greater interest than prosperity. Sir John Forrest may be expected to exercise a mollifying influence in Western Australia. He ia fully alive to the necessities of defence, and the fact that safety is realisable only by means of political union. Morn population is necessary for her defence, and ought to be welcomed in Australia as cordially as in Canaaa. Reoeived"Ootober 19, 9.33 p.m. LONDON, October 19. Mr Rason, agent-General for Westralia, in an interview, expressed West Australia's feelings with regard to the Commonwealth. Even political opponents were agread on the transcontinental railway question. Nevertheless unless the support of two or three States was obtained secession would never be achieved. He believed the discontent would continue for a little while, but he was sure that ultimately Averything would terminate satisfactorily.
