CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

MEETING OF COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Council of the ( Masterton Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. There were present Messrs I. U. Mason (ohairman), M. Caselberg, Ci E. Uaniell, E. E. Chamberlain, R. T. Holmes, J. B. v Moodie, J. B. Keith, il. C Robinson, B. J. Dolan, E. H. Waddington, W, B. Oheunelh. Apologies for absence were reoeived from Messrs D. Donald, J. D. Gruiokshank and F. W. Carey. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £lO 13s lid. Th Secretary reported that he bad nut yet received a reply from Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., with reference to asking the Government to have the matter of a trunk telephone line between Masterton and Wellington attended to. Mr Dolan brought np the question of improving the, track up Mr. Holdswortb. Ho thought the object one in which the Chamber might assist. Mr Robinson explained what steps the Committee were taking towards improving the track. He felt sure that a donation from *be Chamber would be welcomed by the Committee. To test the feeling of the meeting he moved that the Chamber make a donation of £3 towards improving the track. Mr Caselberg seconded the motion pro forma. He thought that the question was one beyond the range of the Chamber, and considered that the amount required for improving the track should be subscribed privately. "No doubt, it will attract tourists," said Mr Caselberg, 'about four in the course of ten years I" Mr Darnell spoke in favour of the ujotion, and considered the mountain an asset to the town. Mr Dolan sairi he was inclined to support the Chamber voting an amount towards the ptojeot. The motion was then put to the meeting and carried by seven votes co three. .
