By Telegraph—.Press Association. Received October 18, 10.19 p.m. SVDNEY, October 18. The New Zealand bowlers suffered defeat in two four-rink matches against Petersham and Ashfleld. At the former place the local team included 'three inter-State players and a very strong combination altogether. Sneddon's rink, wbiob performed very weakly at Maitland, was the cause of the visitors' downfall at The other three rinks were twelve up at the finish, but Sneddon finished seventeen down. Bowskill bis game along strongly, and although Wheeler's rink bud the worst of it in the first couple of houn*, they olayed so excellently up-hill that they finished level. Vvaddeil's rink played a good, steady game. Scores:—Basings, Court, Keast and Sneddon (N.Z.), 17; Petersham, 34. Soott,. MoGibbon, > Gillies, and Wheeler (N.Z.), 20; Petersham, 25. Askburst, Lefevre, Dal), and Donskill (N.Z.), 25; Ptotersham, 18. Bee, Short, Hunoook, and Waddell (N.Z.), 23; Petersham, 18. Totals: Petersham, 95; New Zealand, 90. The game at ashfleld was very closely contested. Scores:—Black, Osmond, laylor, and banning (N.Z.), 24; Asbfleld, 20. Ledingham, Mowlem, Marsden, and Rankin (N.Z.), 17; Ashfleld, 29. As a seven rink tsam the visitors would be reasonably strong, but as an eight-rink team it has an clement of weakness wbiob may have its effect in the inter-State match.
