CRICKET NOTES.
(By Cover Point).
The senior championship oompetiiiion of the Maefcerton Cricket Association will commence, today, on the Park Oval. On No. 1 wioket Carlton A (last year's premiers) will play W.P.Q.A. An interesting game should be witnessed. Carlton are patting a very strong team in the field this year. It is a good all round one, and perhaps in no team in the W&uaiapa are so many bowlers to be found, viz., eight. There are plenty of change men, and a team containing such a variety of bowlers as Waters, Hoar, Iggulden, CongI don, Boyd (2), Swan and B. Welch should, one would think, be a difficult team to make a big score against. In batting the team has good men in Waters, P. P. Weloh, O'Leary, W. R. Boyd, Iggulden, 'Hoar, and H._ Welch, while Swan, Congdon, K. Boyd and tl. Weloh oan be relied on to hold their end up. Generally speaking, the team has good fielders. There are some who would have preferred to see Darville in the team for his batting, and certainly the Seleotion Committee should endeavour to find a place for this player. A. E. Laevey, 1 understand, will not be available till the uext matoh. It is to be regretted that such fine players as A. J. Welch and W. Eagle have decided to retire. Prow, who played so well last year, is unable to get off on Thursday this season. The W.F.O.A. has three or four new players this season, and on paper appears to be a stronger team than last season. It ia a good all-round team. Toe W.P.O.A. will be represented by Schubert, Hall, Parton, JDugarde, TJren, Sorimgeour, Welch, Williams, Ralph. Daniel! and Wbitt. The game between Star and Carterton promises to be a closely contested one. The Star team contains one player new to Masterton, viz, Townsend. In batting the club have good men in Esson, Logan, Richards (2), Egan, Edwards , Chapman and Stewart, while there is a variety "of bowling. Logan, McLean, Ed - wards, Egan, Dwyer, and CUapman are a formidable contingent of bowlers. The Carterton learn, I understand, is much the same as last year. The following team will represent the Stars:—Eason, Chapman, Logan, Richards (2), J. MoLeaD, Dwyer, Townsend, Stewart, Egsn, Edwards. Emergencies—Merchant and Truscott.
