WELLINGTON RACES. By Telegraph—Press- Association. WELLINGTON, Ootober 17. The Wellington Racing Club's Spring Meeting opened, to-day, m ideal weather. Tho course was in splendid condition, and the attendance was excellent. The sum of £11,553 (iuolusive of the double machine) was put through the totalisators, an against £9,992 for the corresponding day of last year. The amount invested on the doublw machine (Wellington Handieap and Flying) was £990, the winning combination (Olanohattan and Golden Gate) paying out £55 13s on each £1 invested. Results:—

October Hack Hurdles.—Pawa 1, Sardonyx 2, Gyrus 3. Rookby and Hydroaoope were tho other starters Hydrosoope fell at the back of the oourse. Won easily by three lengths, six lengths separating second and third horses. Time. 3miu 20 l-ssec. Dividend, £5 Bs. Shorts Handicap.—Medallist 1, Declination 2, Ballarat 3. Captain Shannon, Marguerite, Petticoat and St. Bill also started. Won by a length. Time, Iroin 2 3-saec. Dividends, £5 13s and £l. Rimutaka Hack Handicap.—lntelligence 1, Rosßgrove 2, William 3. Scratched—Armamento, Kuku, Lady Beresford, and Highland Idling. Won comfortably by nearly two lengths, tbrße lengths separating second and third, lime, Imin 17 l-sseo. Dividends, £3 and £3 35.. Ghooirka was the first away, followed by Boomerang and Bourrasque. At the four furlong post Ghnorka lost his position, Boomer aag running into the Premier position. Entering the the field closed up, the colours of Mystification aud Frisco being prominent. Zimmerman appeared to have the ra,oe in hand, when Clanobattan oaroe with a rattle and beat the cult by half a length. Ghoora finished strongly, and was placed third, Mystifioatiou and Frisco coming next in that order. La Torpedo was last. Time, 2min lOsec. Dividends, £8 2s and £1 Is. Flying Handicap.—Golden Gate 1, De Witte 2, Contender 3 Mungista was the other starter. Golden Gate led practically from the start and was never seriously troubled to the end of the journey, the margin in his favoui being a go id length. De Witte just beat Contender for second place. Time, lmin lCseo. Dividend, £3 9s. Wellesley Stakes (two-year-olds). —Eona 1, Elevation 2, Finery 3. Also started Gold heater, Pearl Reef, Gold Crest, The Boyne. Eona hooped away at tie start and was never headed, winning by a clear length and a half; Elevation out down Finery in the last eighty yards, and secured second money by a length. The time recorded (49 l-sseo) seemed to show what a pace the winner set his field. Dividends, £1 16s and £1 9s.

Wainui Handicap.—Martello 1, Aeolus 2, Rosegrove 3. Soratobed Maui. Won by a oouple of lengths. Time, lmin 31 l-sseo. Dividends, £4 7s and £3 lis.
