A HEARTRENDING SPECTACLE. Received Ootober 17, 8.18 a.m. CAPETOWN, Ootober 16. The Octopus, which sank off Tugela on October 14fcb, sprang a leak and her stoke-holds became flooded. A carrier pigeon carried ashore news of the danger of the dredge foundering. Two boats were launohed, but were swamped. Captain Ogilvie's wife with her two obildren in bar arms, and her husband, who was clasping his wife's waist, were swept overboard. A wave tore the- wife from her husband's grasp, and she and her children wer« drowned before bis eyes. The crew were resouetl. ANOTHER DREDGE OVERDUE. Received Ootober 17, 9.49 a.m. MELBOURNE, October 17. lhe dredge Octopus, which foun dered on the African coast, was, with the dredge Walrus, purchased by the Geelong Harbour Board, from tbe Natal Government, for £B,OOO each, and an additional £2,000 was spent in fitting the Octopus for the voyage to Australia. Grave fears are entertained for the safety of the Walrus, which is now three weebs overdue. PIETERMARITZBURG, Oct. 16. Durban reports that grave anxiety is'felt owing to the non-reporting of another dredger for Geelong, which left Durban on August 13th.
