The attendance at the Main School has now nearly recovered from thß effect of the scarlatina outbreak. At the Side School, however, the attendnnce is still affected. The annual examination visit of Inspectors Fleming, Bakewell and Tennant aommenoed on Monday, the 17th ult., and ended on Friday, the 21st ult. In the Sixth Standard ulaas 61 pupils obtained certificates of profioienoy, entitling the holders to free tuition in the Secondary Department. Thirty-six have taken advantage of their free places; the others have left—the boys to go to work, and the girls to assist at home. The second term buliday was observed the week following the annual examination. During the time the school was closed the class-rooms were arrayed with disinfectant and the floors all sorubbed. I am glad to be able to report that the newly-appointed sehool-cleaners are giving satisfaction in their work at both schools. Iu connection with the letter from the Secretary of the Navy League, forwarded for my perusal and report, I desire to say that I am willing to cssist in the formation of a branch of the League in connection with this school, if the Committee deems it advisable. Jn my opinion, however, it would be better to concentrate our efforts in the training of tlie older boys in rifle shooting. 1 forward the sketch plans of the sheds for the school garden. 1 should be glad to see the work put in hand as early as possible. From the W.F.O.A. I have received a donation of seed potatoes of a number of varieties. These, and the supply given by Messrs J. D. Cruiokshank and Co., will enable me to do this year's planting without any cost for seed, at any rate as far as potatoes are concerned. '
