SOUTH ROAD.

PETITION FOR A FOOTPATH. At the meeting of the Masterfton County Counoil, yoßterday, a letter whs received from the Town Clerk in refeienoe to the petition from residents in South Road asking for the construction of a footpath on one side of South Road. The letter stated that the estimated cost of the road was £2 per chain for akoat twenty chains. As the road was a boundary road, and the petitioners were prepared to contribute half the oost, the County Counoil was asked to agree to the work being done. Messrs P. Gordon, E. G. b'rost and J. Whittaker waited on the Council and urged that the work be carried out. It was decided that, on a guarantee being given that half the oost of the work would bo provided, the Council <vould be prepared to go on with the work.
