PARTICULARS OF THE DISASTER. Received October 11, 8.30 a.m. BRISBANE, October 11. Details of the iiongkong typhoon on, September 18th, show that i was the mOBt appalling and de atructive that has ever been experienced in that part of the world, lb is estimated that .fully five per centum of Chinese craft employed in the harbour was lost. The official records state that 1,206 fishing boats aodfother local craft were lost, and 1,147 persons were missing. ft'ine steamers and sailing ships sank and 48 others were driven ashore , including the steamer Prinz Waldemar, and the French torpedo boat Fronde. Three officers and two men belonging to the latter were drowned. Besides Bishop Hoare, Captain Patrick and Engineer Wallace, of the steamer Albatross, Captain Mead and Engineer Morgan of the steamer Kwongchow, and Captain Maxfield and Engineer Williamson, of the steamer Hongkong, and nine other Europeans were drowned. Kowloon was harder hit than any other part of the colony. The wharves completely disappeared, the sea wajla were broken down, railway beds of massive concrete were crumpled up, and junks were tossed high on the quays. A big ship dragged her moorings and was driven on to the walls, while others suddenly sank The peninsula for miles was enveloped iu desolation.
