MASTERTON GYMNASIUM.

ANNUAL DISPLAY. The sixth annual display by the pupils of the Masfcertou Gymnasium and Pbysioal Training School was held in the Town Ball, la«t evening, befoie a large audience. Generally the display wa3 a fgood one, and reflected great credit on the instructor, Mr A. Jewiss. The programme comprised various exeroises on the horizontal bar, Roman rings, and with dumbells, clubs and waiadp. The ladies' classes showed much neatness and finish in their exercises, and the gracefulness of their movements was heightened by their pretty costumes. In marching and in their exercises with the dumbells and wands, they kept excellent time, which was a noticeable feature throughout the whole programme. The small boys were seen in the dumbell exercises, and the exactitude of their movements gave evidence of careful training. The boys also played a prominent part in the pyramids. One (-mall boy, in particular, formed the apex of every pyramid, and his coolnesss was admired by ail. 'JCh» men's Glasses gave excellent displays of tumbling and exercises on the horizontal bar and the ringe.y Each movement was cleanly done, and was followed by loud applause. The pyramids were excellently carried out, and, by way of a change, a maze run was introduced. Mr Jewiss gave an exhibition on the bars and of duo swinging, and acquitted himself very creditably. He was loudly applauded. The fiual tableau was nleverly arranged and neatly carried out. Incidental rnasio and the accompaniment to a numbet of itema were supplied by an oronestra under Mr Reihnua Boyee. Most of the accompaniments'were played by Miss Puller, the club's oiauiste. Ihe roles of "ulowu" and "fool" were in the hands, of Messrs C. J. Maokellar and D. Walsh, respectively.
