MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

ORDINARY MEETING. The Mayor and Cra J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, T. G. Hoar, W. Morris, E. G. Eton, 3. O. Ewington, E. Feist and E. Mcßwen, attended the ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, last evening. An apology for absence whs received from Cr Pauling. An application from tbe St. Patrick's Day Sports Association f,for the use of the Park Oval for a sports gathering on March 14tb, 1907, was granted, subject to terms being arranged. Mr David Lett wrote asking the Oouncil to allow him to erect a shop and dwelling in wood on the piece of land at the junction of High Street, Queen Street, and South Road, Kuripuni. The letter was referred to the Engineon Mr F. C. Daniell wrote asking the Council's permission to erect five telopbone posts on the north side of Johnstone Street from Makora Road to River Road. The letter was held over. The Seoretary of the Masterton Cricket Oouncil wrote applying for the use of the Park Oval on February 19th and 20th, 1907, for the purpose of playing a match against the English amateur team; also, for permission to charge gates. The letier was referred to the Park Committee. In accordance with his notice of motion, Or Ewlngton moved that the previous resolution dealing with the construction of a concrete tank at Lansdowne in connection with the high pressure water supply bo rescinded und that a reservoir built of clay be substituted. The motion was carried without discussion. Or Temple moved to delete that portion of the Works Oommittep's report deciding "to do the work of forming ornamental waters in thfl Park by day labour; the Council to purchase its own plaut for the work." The motion was seconds by Cr Hoar, and carried by five votes to four. It was then decided, on the motion of Or Elliott, to call tenders for'tho work outs.do of Masterton. Mr J. Cro33 presented a petition, containing 300 signatures, to the Council asking that tho publican's booth be abolished from the Park during sports gatherings. It was decided to forward tbe petitiun to the Licensing Committee with a request that it be considered.
