MR HALL-JONES IN CANTERBURY.
OPENING OP A NEW BRIDGE. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTOEIUROH, sent. 30. The Hon. W. flail-Jones, Minister for Railways and Public Works, arrived from Wellington yesterday morning to opeu a new bridgo over tho Oust River, near Stolie. After attending to some departmental business, be left by special train about 13.30. At Eanjziora, where tbe Minister stopped for a few minutes, he was waited on by a deputation, who urged that certain improvements should bo carried out at the railway station there, and he promised to give due consideration to tho request. Mr Hall : Joneß then pruceedod to Stoke, where ho opened the bridge over the Oust. He was entertained at luncheon afterwards, and responded to the toast of the Governor and his advisers. On returning to Chrsstofanroh, tbe Minister paid a short visit to the Exhibition site, and left in the evening for Wellington. .
