EDUCATION BOARD.
Messrs Robert; Lee (ohairman), A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., J. Kebbell, T. W. McDonald, A. U. Vile, W. Allan, W. A. Evans, W. 0. Buchanan, and W. H. Field, M.H.R., were present at the monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board on Thursday afternoon. The following waß the statement of fiuanoe presented:—Buildings account, dr., £4,928 6a lOd; general aooount, or., £1,641 18s; dr. balance on general and building accounts, £3,286 8a lOd. Secondary auoounr, or., £206 Bssd; technical acoouut, or., £1 4s 3d; manual and technical, or., £657 17s lOrf teachers' salaries, or., £1,545 15s lid; total, £2,411 6a sd. Depoait aooount, or., £73 13s 6d; dr. balanoe September 27tb, 1906, £BOI 8s lid; or. balanoe 29th August, .1906, £2,178 6s 2d, contraot liabilities, £4Ol 14s. Paysheet Buildings, £BSB lis; general, £932 7s 4d; secondary, £639 lis 2d; technical, £4 Is 3d; M. and T. classes, £124 16s 9d; teachers' salaries, £4,114 5s 2d; deposits, £l9 6s 6d; total, £6,692 19s 2d, Payments siuoe last Board meeting—Buildings, £2,112 8s lid; superannuation, 6s; deposits, £100; technical (Wellington), £2,956 16a 5d (received payment from Government September); total, £5,169 lis 4d. The Works and Finance Committee's ruoommeudations were approved: - 1. Rakaunui, application for subsidy on £9 18a; agricultural instructor, lodging allowance for teacher assisting Mastertou, 7s a week.—Agreed to. 2. That the following application be declined:—Makuri, erection of patent w.c, £l6 to £lß.—Agreed to. 3. That the followiug be deferred : Makuri, additional window.— Agreed to. 4. 'lbat the following be reserved for the decision of the Board:— Kahautara, subsidy on playshed £2O, committee contributing £2O (there are two sbelter-sheds), aud £5 for large bell. 5. That a full statement of the Board's building proposals be submitted to the department re Pabiatua. Tho inspector's reoommendation that the best means of carrying tho children from the Dyer Settlement into the Martinborough School be adopted was carried. Ou Mr Buobiuan's motoo, it was deoidod to approach *be department for a grant for a new sohool at the Dyer Settlement. A suitable site had been offered the Board near the creamery, some three miles and three-quarters from Martinborough, aud the Chief Inspooioi' stated there were about thirty children at Dyer, with tha curly prospect of an inorensed number. A committee was set up to go into the whole question of the conveyance of ohildren to sohool. Tho Sites Committee recommended:—(l) Alfredton—That the new sohool bo built on the present site. (2) Martinborough—That the Board purchase the nore offered at £125. (3) Rougokokako—That stumping, draining, and fencing of the new section proceed, the site for the residence to be determined later. In reply to Lketabuna's request that that township be made an examination centre in regard to the national scholarships, the department wrote that the place would require to furnish at least ten candidates before the matter could be oonsidered —Mr Vile said he thought there would be oven more oandidates from the district than the number nominated.
