MICHAEL STREET. The oo«t of widening this street and re-erecting the fences of property owners was estimated by the Committee appointed to go into the matter at £2OO. Or Temple thought that Michael Street did not demand the immediate attention of the Council so much as other streets in the Borough, as it was not a main | arterial road. The Mayor said that as the Counoil had had offers from several of the property owners in the street to give the necessary land for the widening of she street they should go on with tbe work. If the work was put ofF now they might not have the land offered later on. Or Ewington said that the street was not a main arterial road for the reason it was not a chain wide. He thought the Counoil would be justified in taking the money for the work out of tbe overdraft. Crs Feist and Morris favoured the widening of the street at once. Or Ewington moved—"That the street be widened wherever the owners woulc", give the land and the fences be removed back as requested by the owners." Be thought if that were done the other property uwners would fall ino line and give their land for the complete widening of the street. Cr MoEwen seconded the motion, which was carried. MAKORA STREET. An offer was received from thirteen property-owners to give their land for the widening of this street. It was stated tbat there was £325 on the loan sohedule for repairing the bridge in the street and providing for an outlet, either to Kuripunf Street or Colombo Roai. On the motion of Cr MoEwen it was decided to aooepfc the property given for the widening of the street and set tbe fences back; also to go on immediately with the repairing of the bridge and the providing of an outlet from the street. SMITH STREET. Cr Feist moved that tbe recommendations of the Committee appointed to deal with the question to widen the street by 16ft 6in on tne south aide be adopted.
