Router's Manila correspondent staLes that is it reported that a thousand lives have been lost at Hong Kong. The British destroyer Taku (600 horse-power) and two British riverboats have been damaged. At Hong Kong twelve ships were sunk, twenty-four were driven ashore and seven damaged including the Polynesian, Strathmore and Radnorshire. The Admiralty states that it is the Algerine, not the Phoenix, whioh is damaged. A BISHOP MISSING. Received September 2'), 9.18 p.m. HONG KONG, September 20. The Bight Rev. Joseph Obarles Hoare, Bishop of Victoria (Hongkong), who was crossing from the neighbouring islands, at the outset of the storm, is missing. Yesterday bis launch was found stranded on the beach. MESSAGES Ob 1 CONDOLENCE. Received September 20, 10.21 p.m. HONG KONG, September 20. The Earl of Elgin has telegraphed to Sir Matthew Nathan, Governor of Hong Kong, King Edward's deep re gret at the oalamity. His Majesty was grieved to hear of the immense loss of life among the Chinese, and expresses sympathy to tbe im mediate sufferers, the whole of the Hong Kong oommunity.
The Government baa also sent condolences.
THOUSANDS OP CHINESE] PERISH. Received September 20, 10.21 p.m. HONG KONG, September 20. Therb are indications that several tbuusacds of the Chinese water dwellers have perished.
