A CELEBRATED GIBSON GIRL.

The engagement of Miss Oamille Gilford, "che original tfibson girl," to the Hon. Henry Bruce, eldest son of Baron Aberdare, was recently cabled. Mies Clifford is one of the best-known of modern stage beauties, although hardly entitled to be called an actress, inasmuch as her artistic or dramtio talents are not considerable. She flret attracted paplio attention's the winner of a famous beauty stiow in New York, a theatrical manager having arranged a competition for girls who thought they could be the flesh and blood embodiment of the Dana Gibson type of cirl. Althogub admittedly not the greatest beauty in the show. Miss Clifford was awarded first place as the nearest approach to the type and as such, her picture has been largely reproduced throaghout the. world. She played the part of Mazie Manhattan, of New York in the "Prince of Pilsen" at Mr George Mnsgrove's theatre the Shaftesbury, London in 1904 and "created quite a sensation without speaking a word or singing a note." "Xho Prince" like "The Belle of New York" was a samll gold mine to Mr Musrove who holds the Australian rights and has promised to produce it in Australia. Miss Clifford was next engaged to appear as one of the Gibson girls in "The Catch of the Season." The Hon. Henry Bruce came of age last year.
