ENGLISH WOMEN AS CLIMBERS.
Miss Rhoda Uindley and Miss Louisa Murray, both of London, have created a record in mountaineering by traversing the entire range of the Frenoh and Swiss Alps, from Grenoble to Zermatt, by way of Daaphiny and Haute Savoie. The ascended about 20 peaks, and lived for several weeks at higher altitudes than 3000 ft. From Zermatt they attempted the Matterhom, but were forced back by bad weather. The intrepid climbers carried their own provisions and clothes, and were accompanied by the guide Burgener, of Giindewald. This is the first time in Alpine history that each a series of climbs has been made in succession, and without descending to the alleys. .Miss Constance A. Barniooat, of New Zealand, has a remarkab'e record in the Alps «nd Daupbiny. It is her intention to try the Caucasus in the very near future, whioh will furnish her with many ascents made for the first time by a woman.
