GAS SHOW-ROOM.
THE COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATIONS. A meeting of the committee appointed by tbe Masterton Borough Council to consider the question of a show-room wherein to exhibit gas fittings, beaters, and cookers was held last evening. There were pre--1 sent—Ci'B Eton (chairman;, Temple, Elliott, and Ewington. The Gas Maiager reported that during last year cookers, heaters and fittings to the value of £434 had been sold, while for the first four months of the present year the sales for those articles had amounted to £320. The business in the articles mentioned fully warranted a show-room being provided, and be tstimated that the Druids' Hall could be fitted up fhr tbe purpose for about £lfc>o. He considered that tbe business could be run with the present staff. It was decided "that, having considered the report of the Gas Manager, this committee is of the opinion that tbe business warrants the Council providing a show-room for gas goods without delay." The question of a suitable building for the ahow-ioom was then dis cussed, and a motion was moved that the Druids' Hall be put in order and divided off bo that the front part might be used for a show-room. • An amend went was moved by Or Temple, "that for the purpose of showing tbe gas goods a room be built on tbe Bannister Street frontage at the gasworks." After some discussion the amendment was lost, and the motiou carried on tbe casting vote of tbe Chairman. The voting for > the amendment was:—Ayes: Ova Ewington and Temple. Noes: Crs Elliott and Eton. It wa3 then deoided that the necessary funds be provided out of the Gas Acoount, and the amount so expended be refunded out of rent; tbe amount of rent to be arranged between the Library Committee and the Gas Committee. The Engineer was instructed to prepare plans and estimates for putting in order the Druids' Hall; also pjaqs and estimates for the erection of a show room in Bannister Street. A meeting of the committee will be called as soon as the plans and estimates are ready.
