TARANAKI v. WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. ff.. Taranaki and Wellington met, today, in splendid weather, before a very large attendance. The game* was exceedingly fast, open, and , interesting. The teams, on the whole,, were evenly matched, but the Wellington backs collectively were clever and dangerous. The looal forwards, contrary to expectations, quite held their own till within fifteen minutes, of the end, when they commenced to "crack up" through lack of condition. Wellington won by 14r points to 6. For the winners trie? were soored by Mitohinson, Wallace, and Gilchrist, Wallaoe converting one and kicking a goal from a mark. Hardgreaves kicked a penalty goal, and iSourke scored a try for Taranaki. Several chances of scoring jrere missed by both sides, Taranaki, if anything, having the worrit of the luck, the ball being grounded on tbe line on three ocoasioos in quick succession.
