Time, 4min 15seo. (By Zetland.) The Hunt Steeplechase meeting at Taratabi, yesterday, attracted a fairly large number of the public, and some really good sport was witnessed during the afternoon. Six were saddled up for the Hunters' Hurdles, of one mile and a-half, and Blauk Oil, on the strength of his running at the Wuodlands meeting recently, was made (favourite, with King Bay, a bie gelding by Gold Reef—May, also quoted at short odds in the betting. Star Gazer and Kaka were responsible for the greater part of the running, but when called upon Blaok Oil put in bis run, and won easily from Star Gazer. Gipsy Joe, Simplex, Katu, Wanderiri, and Clovial were scratched for the Haok Flat of six furlongs, leaving thirteen to go to the post. As regards oondition, War Dog, Pati Pati and St. Brandon were the piok of the field. From the start St. Brandon was quiokest to move, and led to the turn closely attended by Wild Cat and Nothing, Ayers bad to ride the leader down the straight to win by a neck from Wild Cat, with Hoity Toity a fair third. Pati Pati and Nothing ran well for new beginners, and should be heard of later. "Six huntera went out for the Taratabi Steeplechase contest, Mr T. A. Shaw's Merrylegs being backed at even money. This horse put up a very meritorious performance never leaving the issue in doubt from the fall of the flag. Mr B', Buiok's Tattoo also ran a game race, and finished second. His oonditicn was not so solid as thnt of the winner or the race would have resulted in a very close finish. A good field of ten were saddled up for the Haok Flat, of 7 furlongs. Silken Rein was well backed at even money, but nothing else was supportedtto any extent. After going three furlongs War Dog and Silken Rein fell. Star Queen, a neat filly by Day —C,Jueenie, looked a likely winner at the home turn, but ran off on to the inside traok. Laviuia was then left in front, and half-way down Hoity Toity joined issue, and an exciting finish resulted in the latter winning by a short bead. Merrylegs was made favourite for the Wairarapa Hunt steeplechase, of 2'4 miles, Yeoman also being quoted at short odds. Remnette, capably ridden by Mr J. Tilson, scored a rather easy victory from Merrylegs, who would have made a big bid for victory but for running off a jump the first time round, and having to go back to negotiate the obstacle. The winner met with a good reception on returning to scale. The full field of eight faced the starter for the Ladieß' Bracelet Handioap. Tui cut out the running for five furlongs, when Star Gazer went to the front. At the far side Thresa took command, aud, well ridden by Mr Harold Welch, won comfortably. Tho winner ran in the nomination of Miss Tilson. The Hunters' Flat, of 2 miles; only brought out three starters. A really good race between Blauk Oil and Remnette was witnessed, the former winning by a head. The winner will now be trained for hurdle raoes to be ran during the season, and if well placed will soon increase his winning score. Taken altogether the meeting was a deoided success, and the Hunt Club may therefore decide to make it an annual fixture.
