MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
WORKS COMMITTEE.
The ordinary meeting of the Borough Wovfes Committee was held last evening. The Mayor presided, and there were also present:—Crs J. H. Pauling, -1. Elliott, F. W. Temnle,. T. G. Hoar, W. Morri?, E. G. Eton, J. C. Ewington, E. Feist, and E. McEwen. Mr H. Byford wrote applying for a two-inch water service to be laid on to his factory in Victoria Street strictly for fire purposes. The application was granted. Mr M. Kerius wiote stating that there was a mistake iu the figures of his „ tender as submitted to the last meeting for the work of forming a footp'th in Bannister Street. The tender should have read £3 19s 6d per chain, and not £3 las 6d per •chain, as eoceptid by the Counoil. The Town Clerk reported that the tender of Mr E. J. Kerobsr at £3 15s 6d per chain was therefore the lowest received for the work. It was decided to accept tho tender of Mr, Kimber for the work.
An application was received from the Masterton Bowling Club for « connection with the water supply in Hogg Crescent. The application was granted on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr Eton.
Mr W. G. Beard wrote stating that Mrs H. F. Johnson, owner of a piece of land in Albert Street, was desirous of subdividing tbe land, and he asked that section 3, sub-section 1, of tbe Public Works Aot, 1903 (providing that where land has a frontage to an existing street of a less width than 06ft, v and such land is sub divided into allots for sale, the owner shall set back thegfrontago at lease 33ft from the centre line of the street}, should not apply to that part of Albert Street fronting tno properly of Mrs Johnson. The application was refused. The Engineer was instructed to examine and report on tbo question of a right-of-way into Mr Winzenbeie's in Queen Street.
Specifications were submitted by the Eugineer' for the work of forming 11 chains of road and footpath in Akura Road from the railway crossing to tbo Dairy Road. It was decided to oall tenders for the work. Jt was decided to invite tenders for the work of opening up Wrigley Street to JVilla Street, also to in■crease the width of the footpath on the south side of Wrigley Street to 13ft. It was further decided to sell a piece of land which the Council acquired when takioa over property for the opening qp of Wrigley Street, and tbe proceeds to bo devoted to carry out the work of widening tho footphth on the side •of Wrigley Street to 13ft. After a brief discussion on the Lanadowne wat6r suncly question, the Mayoi moved that; the capacity required for the reservoir at Lanedowne be reduced from 150,000 gallons to 50,000 gallons. The mo. tion, which waa seconded by Cr Feist, was lost on the voices. Later on Cr Feist moved, and the Mayor seconded, that the motion already uassed by the Council requiring the reservoir to be 150,000 gallons be resoinded. This motion was also lost. ' The Committee decided to meet ■on ,Thursday afternoon tu consider the question of corporation yards.
