AUCKLAND v. SOUTHLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, August 25. Tha interprovincial football match Auckland v. Southland, for the Ranfurly Challenge Shield, was .played at Alexandra Park, this '"afternoon, in the presence of about six thousand spectators, and was won by Auckland by 48 points to 12. With Gillett, Seeling, and Hayward of the forward division standing down, owing to injuries, it was expeoted that the local men would be kept hard at it to defend the Shield, but they won very easily. The Southland [forwards played a hard solid game, tut laoked the dash and cleverness of the Auckland front division. The visitors' backs played indifferently at times. They were given chances, but seldom looked like sooring. The Auckland team played a more open game than in previous 'representative matches, •aud tbe backs slung the ball about

to good purpose in attacking. Their work generally showed a marked improvement. Southland won the toss aud eleoted to play against a strong wind in the first spell, during wbioh they failed to score, and bad 30 points hoisted against them. HAMILTON, August 25. The Waikato representative team defeated the second Auckland senior representative team by 3 points to 8. GOLDEN BAY V. BUSH. _ f The representative match between the Golden Bay aud Bush representatives was played at Hamna on Saturday. The game was keenly contested. In the first spell the scores were, Golden Bay 5 points, Bush 3 points). C. George scored a try for the visitors, which P. Page converted. In the oecond spell the Bay team hart three men injured soon after the £.tart, and two had to retire altogether. The Bush oaoks were smarter than the Bay back division. The home team put on 13 points during the spell, while the Bay failed to score. The Bush's score of 10 points was made up of two tries (converted) and two penalty goals. The Bush team were considerably heavier than the visitors. The Bay forwards were superior to the Bush. Smith played • a great game in the forwards for the Bush. H. Sparrow and Batlett were the best of the visitors' forwards, while Biokley and C. George did good work in the backs. KOPUARANGA V. RANGITUMAU. The Kepuaransra and Rangitumau I teamß met, on Saturday, at Rangitumau. The game was keenly contested, and reunited in a win for Kopuaranga by the small margin of 3 points (an unconverted try obtained by Clarke from a forward rush) to nil. The game was mainly confined to the forwards, and the two paoks were fairly evenly matched. The Rangitumau backs were slighly superior to the Kopuaranga baoks. Wrigley, Chamberlain and McLaohlan deserve special mention. Dorset played well in the Kopuaranga back division. The forwards of both teams worked hard, Scorrar and Clarke and Wilkin and McLacblan playing well for their respective sides. Mr R. Spackman was referee. EIOROWHENUA v. WAIRARAPA THURSDAY REPRESENTATIVES. . A representative match that should attract a large attendance v\ill be played on the Masterton Showgrounds next Thursday, August 30th, when the Horowhenua and Wairarapa Thursday teamß will meet. This is the first occasion on which the Horowhenua -representatives have visited the Sj;Wairarapa, and an interesting game should eventuate The team to represent the Wairarapa Thursday Union is as follows: Full-back, A. Holme; threequarters, J. McGuiness, V. Fairbrother, Perrin; five-eighth, N. McKenzie; half-back, McKiooon; wings, G. Hall and M. O'Leary; forwards, W. Hunter, Sexton, Callister, W. Levlck, Phelps, J.
