VALEDICTORY.
PRESENTATION TO MR AND MRS COOPER.
On Monday evening the inhabitants of Ihuraua Valley and tmrroundIng district met at the Sohool-house to bid farewell and mako a presentation to Mr and Mrs J. 0 Cooper. Mr K. Brown, who oocupien the ohair, said that they had been called together for the purpose of saying good bye to Mr and Mrs Cooper,' and presenting them with something as a token of the esteem in which they were held All present would regret their departure very much and miss them as settlers, neighbours and friends. They wished to express to Mr Cooper their appreuiation of the many services he had rendered the district. He had represented them on the School Committee, Road Board and County Council, and it was a matter of no small regret that saoh valuable services should be loat to them. l'hey were proud of Mr Cooper as a candidate for Parliamentary honours, and they all trusted that the day was not far distant when they would see their old friend Hnd neighbour in a seat in the House. He was sure everybody would mias their kindly friend, Mra Cooper who as always foremoßt at their social gatherings. In conclusion, he hoped their guests would be gainers by the change and fchat happiness and prosperity would follow them and their's. (Cheers). Mr H. JL»agg also spoke of Mr Cooper's many good qualities. Mr Brown then handed Mr Cooper an illuminated address, signed by 42 residents, and Mrs Cooper a nioe travelling rug. Mr Cooper, in replying, traced the history of the district from its earliest stage, when the only outlet from the Valley was by a narrbw bridle track. He referred to the good feeling that had existed among the early settlers. Mr Cooper said that, should opportunity occur, he would again contest an eleotion for a seat in the House. Cheers were then given for the departing guests, and, after supper, dancing was indulged in. On Monday afternoon Mr Cooper, Mrs Cooper and Master Urank Cooper, were presented by the school children with appropriate gifts.—Eketahaua Express.
