MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING
) The ordinary meeting of tbe Mastertou Borough Council was held last evening. Cr E. Feist occupied the ohair, in the absence of the Mayor, and there were also present—Crs J. H. Pauling, J. Elliott, T. G. Hoar, W. Morris, E. G. Eton, J. 0. E.vingtou, aud E. McEvven. Mr S. Council wrote applying for two mouths extension of time in connection with the Colombo Road contract, as he had been delayed owing to bad weather. On the recommendation of the Engineer, the application was granted. Mr P. Coyle wrote resigning his position as a member of the Borough office staff.' The resignation was accepted, and it was decided to give Mr Coyle a testimonial. I The Manager of the Abattoir wrote stating that the water supply at the abattoir had given out on several oooasions recently. He asked that j the master should receive attention, as an adequate supply at the works was absolutely necessary. The Engineer was instructed to report on the matter at the next meeting. An application waq made by Mr W. H. Jaokson, headmaster of the Masterton District High School, for a water service to the school garden. He asked for a one-inch service into the grounds and from this six threequarter inch stand pipes and taps. It was decided to do the work. Applications were made by Messrs Holloway and Son and J. R. Niool to sell meat in Masterton under the "Sales of Meat By-Law 1906." The applications were granted subjeot to the approval of the Abattoir Manager/ Mr W. G. Newton, on behalf of Mr J. Hunter and Messrs Lyttle ' and Sons, wrote applying for the j consent of the Council to a private j right-of-way between the applicants' property fronting Smith Street. The application was granted, subject to the work being carried out to tbe satisfaction of the Engineer. Mr J. Cress, licensee of the Empirw Hotel, wrote stating tnat he had received notice from the Inspector of Nuisances to remove the floor of tbe stables attached to the hotel. As the whole of the hotel was to be rebuilt in brick, and the plans of the uew building would have to be submitted to the meeting of the Licensing Committee in September, and the outbuildings would then be reorganised, he asked the Couuojl to allow further time for the carrying out of any alterations required by tbo inspector, lu the meantime he would do his b*est to prevent any nuisance occurring. It was decided to give Mr Cress one month's notice to complete the work of flooring the stables. | On the recommendation of Crs MoEwen and Elliott, it was deoided to purobase a horse and cart, valued , at £'<ls, for use at the abattoir. The question of procuring an office boy was left in the hands of I the Town Clerk. '
