FIRE BRIGADE STATION.
VARIOUS IMPROVEMENTS TO BE EFFECTED.
The Borough, Library and Fire Brigade Committee visited the Central Fire Brigade Station, yesterday afternoon, and conferred with the officers of the Brigade od the question of accommodation at the Station. Captain Jenkins stated that tbe custodian's cottage was small and dilapidated, and that the B'ire Brigade Station required to be enlarged by ahout 14 feet, to be added on at the tack, to provide for men's sleeping quarters, and a / work room. In reply to questions, Captain Jenkins stated that if another cottage near the station was obtained for the custodian and the;. present cottage turned into sleeping quar-. ters for the men' tbe cresent re quirements would be provided for until provision could be made for a ne.v station. Tne Borough Engineer said that tbe question of drain connection would mean putting in a concrete floor to the Btable and making all tbe necessary connections for drainage there. The Committee resolved to recommend to the Council—(l) That the Council apply to rent the Trust Lands Trust cottage abutting on the station site for a custodian's residence; (2) that the present cottage be patched up, and turned into sleeping quarters for the firemen; (3) that the matter of drainage connection be dealt with by a committeee of the whole Oounoil when dealing with the question of corporation yards; (4) that the former decision to wait for the International Exhibition at Christ' ehurch in November berore deciding on the question of a motor rehicle be adhered to. The report was adopted at the meeting of the Borough Council last evening.
