INCREASE OF CUSTOMS DUTIES.
Received August 17," 10.30 p.m. LONDON, August 17. Sir Edward Grey, in the absenoe of satisfactory guarantees, has rejected the Porte's Notes regarding the increase of Customs duties. Great Britain and the other Powers are again discussing the question.
RAILWAY EXTENSION
Reoeived August 17, 10.30 p.m. LONDON, August 17. The Times'reports that' Turkey has refused to grant an extension of line to the Smyrna-Aidin Railway Com pany, whose claims for fair treatment are seemingly treated as strictly subordinate to those of the Bagdad Railway Company. Thus the British company is apparently not allowed to ilbuild further Jfuntil it comes to terms with the promoters of the German soheme.
