EKETAHUNA COUNTY COUNCIL.

(Speaial to Age). The ordinary meeting of the Eketahuna County Council was held on Saturday. There were present: Crs Moss (chairman), Redpath, Pitoaithly, Davie, Lowes, Dawson, Dormey and Falkner. On the motion of Cr Lovyes, seconded by Cr Redpath, the report of the Finanoe Committee was adopted. Cr Davie proposed, and Cr Lowes seconded, that Crs Dawson and Dorney sign cheques daring the month. ■^Carried. Tit was resolved, on the motion of Cr Falkner, seconded by Cr Redpath, tnat the letter received from Mr Robinson, solicitor, regarding an amending law ic connection w'th the bye-lawe be considered at the estimate meeting next Saturday. it was decided to appoint the chairman to act with the Chamber of Commerce in reference to Smith's Line,

It Was resolved that the Clerk write to the Native Minister explaining the wishes of the settlers of the County regarding the sab division of the Hamua Native Reserve for the purposes of Selection, and that a copy of the petition now in circulation be forwarded to the Minister. The Chairman of the Town Board waited on the Council and asked the Council's approval to a proposed enlargement of thee Town Board area. V-It was resolved that the Town Board be asked to have their petition signed by the requisite majority and on presentation to the Council it will be favourably considered. The Chairman proposed, and Cr Dawson seconded, that the selling of timber on the roads in the Nireahn district be left in tho hand.d of the overseer and the Chairman with power to act.—Carried. On the motion of Cr Redpath, seconded by the Chairman, it was resolved that Mr Roy be asked to remove his tramline crossing the Kakariki Road. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Dawson, seconded by Cr Redpath, that the Department of railways be asked to erect two lamps at the Eketahuna Railway Station. It was decided to metal the road to Petersen's Pit. It was resolved that the application of Messrs Barrell and Gardiner for a transfer of their traction engine licenoe to a wagon be not granted, as the Council has no power to grant such a concession. Cr Dawson proposed that wages of surfacemen be increased fiom 7s to 8s per day, and the number of men be reduced by one or two, and that the Council take into consideration the wages of the staff.—The Coanoil decided to discuss the motion at tbK meeting next Saturday. It was decided to hold an estimate meeting next Saturday at 11.30 a.m.
