THE DRAINAGE OF THE BOROUGH.
A VISIT TO HIE SEPTIC TANK
While in Masterton, yesterday, Dr Makgill, in company wit-h Mr C. J. Reakes, Assistant Government Veterinary Surgeon, the Mayor and several Councillors and the Borough offioials, visited the septic tank in connection with the complaints recently made y by the residents of Homebush.
In couveraatoin with an Age representative, Dr Makgill said that be intended to furnish a f uli report on the septic tank and the whole drainage of Masrerfcon, and until then he did not feel inclined tn make any statement. "Of course." aaid the Doctor, "the putting of: untreated sewage into a river ia contrary to the Public Health Act." It is considered certain that the question of the drainage of the whole of the borough and permanent outfall works will have to be dealt with, but that ia a large question, and it is impossible to say at prosent what the outcome will be. Ihe Health Department will probably consider some scheme to provide for the permanent drainage of the whole of the borough.
