Received August 8, 10.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, August 8. * The Federal Government i 8 calling for tenders for the deportatiou of kanakas next month. The Government undertakes full responsibility in the matter. The Queensland Government has promised cordial co-operation in the work. It is estimated that conveyance will have to be provided foi 2,500 kanakas. (In his Budget speech delivered last week, the Federal Treasurer stated:—"The repatriation of kanakas has to take place immediately, and we all hope the greatest care will be exercised iu carrying it out. The Government proposes to provide £25,000 for the purpose. The Queensland Commission estimates the cost at £53,454, and states that 5,280 are liable to be returned, but that not more than 4,500 will be deported. 01 that number hot more than' 900 will be deported at the end of the year.
