MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING. The - * ordinary meeting of the Mastertoa Borough Oounoil was held last eveniug. The Mayor presidod, and there were also present—Crs E. MoEwen, E. Feist, J. 0. Ewington, E. G.'Eton, W. Morris,. T. G. Hoar, P. W. Temple, and J. Elliott.
Mr J. W. de Castro wrote drawing the Council's attention to the bad state of the road in front of his pro perty in High Street, and asking the Council to remedy the matter. The Engineer reported that the work was in hand. - The Wellington Charitable Aid Board wrote asking the Council for payment of the second quarter's instalment amounting to £3l 15a id. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee. Mr J. Henderson wrote asking whether the Council had any intention of laying the gas mains in Cornwall Street within a reasonable period. It was decided to inform Mr Heuderson that the gas mains would be extended aloug Cornwall Street as soon as the mains came to hand. A letter was received from the Mas. terton Muuicipal Fire Brigade asking the Council to approve of the reelection of Mr T: Jenkins as chief officer of the Brigade. The appointment was approved of. Mr W. G. Lamb wrote drawing the Council's attention to the fact that| nothing had yet boen done towards forming a footpath in Solway Street. „J.t was decided to spread a few loads of gravel in the street. The tender of E. J. Kimbar (£9 each) was accepted for the supplying and erecting of concrete pedestals for the «ix lamp posts in Queen Street.
The Council decided to insure their employees for the coming year with the Ocean Accident Company, the tender of that company being the lowest received.
