STREET WIDENING IN THE BOROUGH.
BENTLEY AND VILLA STREETS.
At tbe meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, last evening, a letter was reooived from Mr T. Knigbt stating that he would not give any of his land for widening Bentley Street. He thought that only water tables were wanted in the street.
Mr W. M. Easthope wrote stating that he would give the neoessary portion of his land for the widening of Bentley Street on the following conditions:—(l) Thst the footpath be made free of cost to him; (2) that the fence be set back, and made good by the Council; (3) that the young plants in the laurel hedge be transplanted to tbe inside of the fence when Bet,baok; (4) that the soil from the footpath be put into the gully on his land, and as much more soil as could be spared from tbe road.
Mrs M. Spackman wrcte stating that she would only give her land for the widening of Bentley Street on condition that the Oounoil moved her house and the fence back a certain distance, and formed a footpath free of usst to her. In lieu of the above she would bo prepared to take £l5O cash.
Mr Andrew Webber wrote stating that be was not prepared to set back his fence in Villa Street. It was decided to deal with all the letters referring to street widening at a special meeting of the Council.
