BOROUGH FINANCES.
ESTIMATES FOR YEAR 1906 7. At a special meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, last evening, the estimates for the year 1906-7 were considered, and the following schedule was adopted:— Receipts. —Rates (arrears), £250; repayment (loan £lO9 16s 2d) £279 16s 2d; rents, £l6l 10s; subsidy, £276 7s 6d; licenses and fees (auctioneers £2BO, under Licensing Act £350, vehicles £SO, dogs £SO, pound £25, buildings £l2O, drains £63, flues and penalties £l7, sundry tees £3B, park £SO), £1,040; the total rateable value of property on the valuation roll is £379,227 (unimproved), upon which a rate of 2%d in the £ will produce £3,555 ss, the Bmount required. Total, £5,562 18a Bd. .
Expenditure.—Office expenses (less proportion to other aooounta), £225; salaries and allowances (less proportion to other accounts), £550; law costs, £75; Are prevention, £250: hospital and charitable aid, £517 18s 8d; public health, £200; pound and dog registration, £so, audit, £2O; licensing, £100; interest, £200; contingencies, £SO; streets and roads, £1,318; street lighting, £750; public park, £200; drainage upkeep, £300; scavenging, £132; sanitary contract, £200; public urinals, £3O; Hope Street cottage, £6O; stables, £300; accident insurance, £3O. Total, £5,562 18a Bd. The item "re-payment (loan £lO9 16s 2d) £279 16s 2d" inoludes the sum of £lO9 16s 2d, which has been expended from the General Account in connection with loan and the balance, £l7O, is the ordinary estimated re-payment of half the cost of footpath construction, etc.
