DRAWN BACK FROM DEATH.
AMERICAN DOCIOR'S AMAZING HYPNOTISM STORY.
Dr. John D. Quicken bos, an American physioian of repute, says the iypnotio suggestions given as death actually impends have power absolutely nnparallelled in any other mental state. "In, June last," he says (aooording to the 'Telergaph' ), "I was called to the bedside of a young woman, whose condition seemed to justify » death sentence—temperature 107, pulse 160, respiration 60. The attending physicians had withdrawn from the case as beyond the pale of hope. As I looked at the girl, an inspiration came to me. 1 took her by the hand, learned her first name from the nurse, and said with great incisiveness 'Adele where are you going? ¥ou cannot die. Come back you have work to do on earth. Comeback at once.' In answer to the summons the uptared eyes resumed their natural angle and Became riveted on mine. The voiue that had for days only uttered the ravings of delirium now spoke coherently, 'lt is tco late," it murmured. 'lt is not.to late," I rejoined. 'Do not dare to say it is too late. Stay where you are. Assume immediate control of your physical functions, and get well. You are going to recover." All this in an imperative, forceful tone. The directions were implicitly followed. A change for the better supervened. Gradually the menal mist cleared away, the physical stiength returned and to day the young woman is perfeotly well, filling an important position in the choir of a city church.
