NEW ZEALAND FARMERS' UNION.

! IHURAUA VALLEY BRANCH. (From Our Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Jhuraua Valley branch of the Union, was held on Saturday last. There was a fair attendance of members. Mr J. O. Cooper presided Correspondence was read in reference to acoident insurance, phonic construction, and the colonial and provincial levies for the year 1306. The question of fixing the annual subscription on a graduated soale was discussed at some length. It was decided to leave the matter for the chairman and secretary to deal with. One iterr of special interest to membors of the Mauricevi'.le County Counoil was brought up by the chairman, viz., increasing the rate of wages of workmen employed ou the County roads to Is per hour. The present high rate of living was one reason given for the raising of the wages. The question of appoiuiing an inspector to supervise the worn done throughout the County was also discussed. The general feeling* of the meeting was that owing to the Maurieeville County baiug too small to support an engineer and a clerk, it would 1)3 a better plaa to merge into the County of Eketahuna, provided that body were willing. One new member was elected. Consideration of the 'report of the Colonial Conference was deferred till next meetiug.
