TINUI. Joly 16. j The South Wand residents of the' •district entertained their Nbrth ißland friends at a ball on the 13th instant The affair proved a moat enjoyable one. Visitors were present from Masterton, Taueru, Bideford, Alfredton, Whakataki, and iroffl a* l over the distriot. The decorations, which were carried out by iMasnames Crawford and Chapman jefleoted great credit to these ladies. Ibe hall looked brilliant with the different coloured buutinp, mingled With evergreenß and toi flowers, while tne stage was transformed into a cosy drawing room, and on the small tables were lamps with pretty shades. The non-dancers thoroughly enjoyed themselves in theoard-room, where qnite, a number Dnseed away a pleasant evening. The supper was an excellent one. Messrs J. Chapman and D. Stevens were the JMe.O., and carried out their duties to the satisfaction of all. Mr W. Dempaey, the energetic secretary, bad all arrangements complete. First class music was supplied by Mr F. McKeuzie. A severe Rale from the south is raying. The heaviest rain this winter has fallen. All stook has been removed from the river flats. The river is in high flood, and still rising. The ioad between Tinui and Whakataki is impassable, owing to a large slip on the Totara Cutting. The mailman was unable to go to Castlepoint.
