HIGH COMMISSIONER'S HEPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce baa received the following oable message from the High Commissioner, dated London, 14th:— "There ia a dull Hale for all qualities of mutton. The average prioe for light-weight Canterbury brands is 3%d, heavy-weight* 3%d per lb. North Island mutton is selling at for best quality, whilst second-class quality is quoted at 3% , per lb. The lamb market is steady. No immediate change m prices is expected. Canterbury brands are quoted at per lb, and other than Canterbury 4%d per lb. Tbe beef market is very dull owing to heavy supplies from the River Plate. There is no change ii prices to report. The butter market is very firm, and there has been an exceptional demand for "ew Zealand butter owing to short supply on hand. Choice New; Zealand brands are selling at 106s, Danish 112s, Siberian 97s per iwt. The oheese market is very firm, and there is a good demand. New Zealand offerings are very small, and 64s is being obtained for white makes and 60s per owt for coloured. The hemp market is very firm. The market is excited by a speculative remand owing to reports from Manila indicating light shipment from that country. A large business is doing and prices are strong. The stocks on hand are very light. G.f.a.q. Wellington, on spot, is £35 per ton, and October-Decem-ber shipments at £34 10s. The prioe of fair current Manila on spot to* day is £43 10s per ton. There has been no alteration in the cooksfoot seed market since last week. The wool market is steady and prices are well maintained. Kauri gum—The following are prices current: Ordinary fair to threequarter scraped, £6 15s per owt; fair half-scraped, 80s per owt; brown, fair, half to three quarter soraped, 85s per owt; brown pickings, oom'mon to good, 47s per owt; bash, fair to good, pale and amber soraped, £7 10s per owt. The demand is getting better for scraped, which is getting scarce. There is no demand for poorer grades."
