ACCIDENT TO A HOCKEY TEAM.

DRIVER OF A DRAG SERIOUSLY INJURED.

Tiie Huia ladies' hookey team, who were journeying to Greytown, yesterday, in one of Mr T. Miller's drags, to play a match, narrowly escaped meeting with & serious accident. The vehicle, which was being drived by Mr A. Miller, was about half - way across the Waingawa Bridge when the two leading horses shied, and swerved to the left, bringing the drag into oolliaion with the railing of the bridge. The horses immediately plunged to thß right, and at the same time the pole snapped in two and the traces broke. The driver was thrown out on to the bridge, and he was kicked on the hip by one of the horses. He was seriously injured. None of the ladies, who showed considerable cour • aize, were injured. Shortly afterwords the drags conveying the Garry Owen Hockey Club to Oarterton and the Albion Junior footballers to Greytown came along, and carried the Huia players to Oarterton. At Carterton the Huias obtained another drag and eventually reached Greytown. On the return journey they were met at Carterton by another drag from Mr Miller's stables, and brought safely to Masterton.
