MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING
The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held labt evening. In the absence of the Mayor Or E. Feist oooupied the chair, and there were also present —Ors E. McEwen, J. 0. Ewington, E. G. Eton, W. Morris, T. G. Hoar, F. W. Temple, J. Elliott, 1 and J. H. Fanling. The Salvation Army wrote thanking the Couucil for the vote of £3 3s towards tbe Army funds. Mr W. Eagle wrote asking for a refund of the fee paid for a conditional license for • a publioau's booth on the third day of the recent courßing meeting, as there was no coursing held on the third day. It was decided that the Council had no power to make the refund requested. The County Clerk wrote asking for payment, of 14s Bd, being the Council's share of the cost of the licensing expenses of the district up till April 12th, 1906. The letter was referred to the Finance Committee. An invitation was received from the Salvation Army for tbe members of the Council to attend the annual meeting of the Salvation Army in connection with its social and rescue work on Thursday evening. The Chairman expressed the hope that the Councillors would be present at the function. Mr C. Saxton wrote asking tbe Council to lay the water and gas along Church Street extension, as he was starting to build on bis section in that street. The letter was referied to the Works Committee. Nine property owners in Church Street wrote drawing the attention of tbe Council to the state of Church Street extension, and awk ihg tbe Council to form and make a footpath on the soutli side of the street. The application was referred to the Works Committee Twenty nine property owners and householders of Pownall Street and the vicinity petitioned tbe Council to place the work of formation and metalling of Pownall Street, or at leatt that part of the street between JRenall and Cornwall Streets on the list of urgent works on the loan schedule. The petition was referred to the Works Committees /- It was decided to call tenders for the cleaning of tbe Makora Creek fVom'Colorabaßoad for about twenty chains onwards through Mr tycKenzie'sr property. Tbp Engineer was instructed to report on Ibe cost of erecting a shed at the butcher's residence at the abattoir.Consideration of tbe loan schedule was postponed until next Tuesday night.
