JUNIOR FOOTBALL.

(To the Editor!. Sir,—The Masterton Football Olub has found it necessary on several occasions to point out the necessity of fo3terinu junior football in this distriot, but 1 regret to * say that so far these appeals have been in vaiD. In justifying the action of the Masterton Olub in making these recommendations, I need only refer to the aorry exhibition given by the district's representatives against Wellington* reoently. If this experience was not sufficient to cause members of the Union restless nights and bring out a suggestion or two for the bettenneufc of the game, then the Union should cease to exist. The faulfc lies in too fact that this body is composed of men with senior interests only. Anything done in junior matter is hurried through with a desire to shirk responsibility. Like the selectors of our ill-fated "rep." team, the Union seems wedded to ths old ordergof drudgery. At its last meeting jjan exceptionally weak attempt to make amends for its remissness was decided on by the Union w'th the result that the game has had a serious set-baok instead of the very reverse. Tnis was in connection with the junior fixture, North v. South. The Union'.? responsibility ended in giving instructions to the Hon. Secretary to advise certain persons that they had been appointed to select the teams. Matters of detail (conveyances, etc), were left to anybody and nobody. Another instance of the Union's bungling in junior matters is that although the season is only halfthrough the game is finished as far as three out of five teams in the competition are conoerued. If this is not shortsightedness, then what is? Thanking you in anticipation.—l am., etc., D. E.-PARTON, Hon. Sec. M.F.O. Masterton, July 2nd, 1906.
