THE SCANDALOUS MEATTRADE.

In "Life" for Jane, Dr Fitohett reprints the very latest contribution to the tinned meat scandal, in the shape of an artiole from the pen of Mr Sinolair,, the man who wrote "The Jangle," and who was largely responsible for the whole exposure. When "The Jungle" first appeared Mr J. Ogden Armour, head of one of the greatest; of the meat-packing companies wrote a series of fehiah were, at onoe, a defence of the Beef Trust and a denial of the charges made in "The Jungle." In the artiole which "Life" reprints, Mr Sinolair gives his opponent the lie direct. Mr Sinolair produces strong evidence to back up bis statements. At this time, when America is so prominently before the public, an illustrated artiole by Mr Charles Nuttall on "Where America is Different," is very timely. In this artiule, also contributed to the June number of "Life," Mr Nuttall i gives another of his chatty, amusing and instructive set of impressions of an Australian artist in New York. Another item of great interejt in this issue is the first of a series in which Dr Fitohett describes the mutiny cities of India. The general features of the Junie issue, it may be added, are quite up to that excellent standard which "Life" set at its beginning, and has since maintained.
