NEW ZEALAND TINNED MEAT.
Received June 27, 9 12 p.m. LONDON, June 27. Sir Joseph Ward oonferred, to-day, with the leading importers in oonsequence of Mr Carroll's telegram with regard Jto the greatly diminished demand for New Zealand tinned meats. pe J suggested that the utmost publicity should be given to the New Zealand system of veterinary and factory inspection. Messrs Weddel, Montague and Nelson assured the Conference that the diminution in thß demand for New Zealand tinned meat was not due to dissatisfaction with New Zealand's system'. The Chicago revelations had choked all demand. Meanwhile the sale of frozen meat had greatly increased. ■■■■'. Mr Gilbert Anderson complained of the difficulty in uecuring "War Office oontraots. LONDON, June 27. Mr W. P. Reeves explained that the reason was on "aoouunt of the higher price of the New Zealand product, the War Office's practice being to accept the lowest tender. He would continue to make recresentations with regard to the better value of New Zealand meat. Received June 27, 9,22 p.m. In the House of Commons, in reply to Mr William (Redmond, Mr Churohill explained that there was very oareful inspection before slaughtering in Australia. He was not aware of any complaint with regard to the tinned imports from Australia. He added that Lord Elgin reoently, at New Zealand's instance, drew the attention of the various Government Uepartments to the fact that all the frozen and tini ned meats from New Zealand wore subject to a minute inspection by duly qualified inspectors.
